$1 million state appropriation will help feed hungry people in Bisbee

Mayor Ken Budge of Bisbee, Arizona, has been actively seeking grant funding to benefit the city, resulting in several recent successes. He secured a $1 million appropriation from state Rep. Consuelo Hernandez to support food assistance programs for those in need

Budge emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “Our people should not go hungry. They need food and sustenance”.Additionally, the city received a $141,000 grant from the U.S. Forest Service’s Healthy Forests Initiative to reduce fire risks in and around Old Bisbee. This funding will help clear fire fuel from various areas, including city-owned land and historic districts.

In another win for Bisbee, a Heritage Fund grant of $91,527 was awarded to repair the unique “glass” sidewalk in front of the Bisbee Restoration and Mining Museum. This project, which will preserve a piece of the city’s history, was made possible through collaboration between local architects, city staff, and volunteers.Mayor Budge’s proactive approach to securing funding demonstrates his commitment to improving various aspects of life in Bisbee, from food security to public safety and historic preservation.
