Bisbee native and longtime community advocate Dan Maldonado has been feeding neighbors facing food insecurity since founding Goar Park Lunches in 2013, saying, You can’t tell me I can’t feed my neighbors.
Now the kitchen lead for Cochise Harm Reduction (CHR), Dan oversees eight kitchen volunteers who give thousands of hours of service over four days each week, and sets an example on how this work offers people the benefits of giving back and having a purpose in their community. He is grateful to again be working with CHR founder and longtime collaborator Lu Funk and to continue serving neighbors through CHR’s kitchen, where his commitment to feeding and caring for people remains central to the organization’s day-to-day work.
He explains, I’ve never missed a meal/scheduled lunch in 13 years,
adding, I’ve always seen the need to help the unhoused and am always looking for an opening to help people.
