In volume five of CHR × KBRP, Cochise Harm Reduction’s Dan Maldonado and volunteer Jimbo join KBRP host (and CHR Board of Director!) Mike Thornton. The three talk about what life is really like for people living outside in Bisbee and why relationships matter more than rigid rules. Dan recalls choosing a “positive rut” of feeding people instead of hedonism and bar culture and explains that true fulfillment came when he realized “true happiness is in helping others and not just chasing the next thing,”; Jimbo describes Bisbee as “definitely in the top” of all the places he’s traveled because its small size creates real community between housed and unhoused neighbors.

Together, they highlight harm reduction as consistent, non‑judgmental presence: delivering nearly 16,000 hot and sack meals a year across Cochise County, checking on encampments during harsh weather, and responding when someone is ready for help. Jimbo says what people on the streets trust most is that CHR staff “have been through it” and “will show up” if called, that just “a pair of socks goes a long way” and Dan urges listeners to remember that if you can’t feed hundreds, “just feed one”- even a warm greeting or a pair of decent shoes can remind someone they are part of the community.
