Working together to help Bisbee’s homeless

Cochise Harm Reduction (CHR) continues its vital work in Cochise County, providing essential services to unhoused individuals and those struggling with addiction. CHR founder and executive director Lu Funk leads regular outreach efforts, delivering food, supplies, and harm reduction materials to communities across the county.

Samuel Bernard, a CHR employee, emphasizes the organization’s impact: “They’re awesome. Life is better with Lu,” as reported by one recipient of their services. CHR’s work extends beyond material support, offering education and legal advocacy to decrease overdose deaths and prevent the spread of infectious diseases.

CHR partners with other local nonprofits, such as Goar Park Lunches, to enhance their reach. Dan Maldonado, founder of Goar Park Lunches, states, “We help support each other. I support Lu one-thousand percent. We help supply Lu with food and supplies.

“Despite their success in obtaining grants and community support, CHR faces ongoing challenges. Funk notes the need for a larger van, a pickup truck, and more donations to continue their expanding services across Cochise County’s diverse communities.
